The privately owned
TEFASCO wharf is a common user port which
is open to the general public for berthing
of vessel and stacking and storage of
cargoes. It has 400 meters berthing capacity
for domestic and foreign vessels with
the draft of 9.5 meters MLLW. A new 150
meter berth is currently under construction
and is due to be completed early in 2008.
The north side of the wharf is equipped
with a ramp of barge landing to facilitate
loading and unloading of heavy rolling
cargoes or landing of bulk cargoes with
the aid of pay loader, backhoe and dump
trucks. TEFASCO terminal comprises of
70,000 square meters of totally paved
concrete table and has four transit
sheds (warehouses) with a total floor
area of 10,652 square meters of covered
area for cargo storage. The main activity
of TEFASCO is cargo handling services,
which consists of loading and unloading
of cargoes to or from vessels docked
at the private commercial wharf. Operations
are performed day and night: Monday
to Sunday including holidays, excluding
only the observance of Christmas, New
Year’s Day, Labor Day and Good
Friday. Stevedores and other operations
personnel, for continuous and effective
services, are grouped into day and night
shifts normally 10 hours per shift.
A study called Davao Gulf Master Plan
prepared by the Philippine Ports Authority
and some German consultants spoke highly
of TEFASCO’s growing share of
cargo throughput due to its modern facilities,
sufficient and excellent equipment and
manpower tool, and the quality of cargo
handling operations with regards to
speed to low percentage of damage and
losses to cargo. Due to its excellent
condition, TEFASCO can handle all kinds
of foreign and domestic cargoes. To
date, we have handled a wide range of
cargoes such as tropical fruits exports
(bananas, mangoes, pineapples, asparagus,)
rice imports, fertilizer imports, salt,
plywood, and many others.
ILAIECO (Ilang Agri Industrial Estate
Corporation), just opposite TEFASCO
wharf and across the national highway,
is a 24.5 hectare property owned by
TEFASCO. It is the backup area for container
storage and site for future warehouses
and factories. The said area is part
of the industrial zone declared by the
Davao City Council and is well suited
for the establishment of export processing.
Encouraged by the Department of Trade
and Industry and by the local government,
plans are currently on going towards
the development of this property. As
of June, 2007 the construction of 10
warehouses covering 5,000 square meters
are near its completion.
